Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice president and is the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the second African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and cannabis legalization which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
